Hey Doc!

Found myself with some free time, so I scooted over to the Nexus and found out how to work that "e-mail" stuff you told me about. This internet thing looks completely awesome. I can't wait for Hill Valley to catch up.

I'm doing all right back home. I'm living in the back of the Darkness Falls bar -- the owner, Roger, gives me a room and meals in exchange for me helping out around the place. It's not a bad gig, I guess. Still really miss home, but -- I still have no idea what to do. I've asked some of the Changeling customers, and half of them never even knew their fetches. The others say that -- confronting them didn't work too well. And the last thing I want is anybody getting hurt. . . .

I guess I can't complain overall. I've got a roof over my head and food provided, which was more than I had when I first arrived. I just -- really miss my old life. And my guitar. I gotta see about getting some money, buying a new one. . . .

Anyway, how are things in Chicago? Still crazy?

Marty

Point. Here's to keeping that shit under control.

Yeah, Metody's cool. Though he comes from an awfully weird planet.

Okay, see you then.

Five minutes later, Doc does appear by the sign, holding a fully-loaded with bells and whistles PINpoint. He quickly locates Marty sitting at one of the computer terminals nearby and gives him a hug. "Here you go -- I found one of the baskets," he says, handing it over. It's pretty much identical to Doc's, meaning it's a wrist-strap version. "The message function is pretty easy to use. . . ." He shows Marty the basics and sets it up to receive e-mails. "Now you can talk to me without having to come here if you don't need to."

Marty happily hugs back. "Good to see ya, Doc."

He accepts the PINpoint and does his best to absorb Doc's explanation. "Awesome," he grins once they're all set. "These things are the best. Though what do I do with my old one?" He holds up the little basic PINpoint already strapped to his wrist. He doesn't really want to chuck it.

"They are," Doc cheerfully agrees.

"Keep that as a spare," he says firmly. "Just in case this one decides to malfunction on you. Strap it to one of your belt loops or something." Doc examines Marty's basic model. "I think I might get one of those myself, for backup purposes. I've been meaning to acquire a spare for a while now."

"Sounds good to me," Marty nods, promptly doing as Doc suggests. Hopefully Roger and Fred won't notice anything weird -- though, really, if they were going to, they probably would have said something by now. Maybe they just think it's a weird watch.

"The vending machines were thataway -- Mets got mine for a quarter," Marty says, pointing in the appropriate direction. "And hey, mind sticking around for a bit and showing me how this Google thing works?"

That's the interesting thing about Nexus stuff -- it can look completely mundane outside the Nexus. Doc's certainly not gotten any comments about his PINpoint in Chicago. Anyone who asks gets told it's a multifunction watch. Which it kind of is, so. . . .

"Thanks," Doc says, starting to head in that direction. "And sure, just give me a minute to get my backup. I could use some more time out of the basement." He spends a quarter to get his miniPINpoint, then he and Marty are off to explore the internet in all it's wonderful and terrible glory.
